washington dc engagement: eliza and david!

Eliza & I began tossing around ideas for her & David’s engagement session a few months ago, and we were both excited when we realized that it would work out for me to come to Washington D.C., where she & David met and fell in love, on my way down to photograph Brooke & Matt’s wedding in North Carolina.  David & Eliza are both teachers in Silver Spring, and have taken full advantage of living so close to the nation’s capital.  They ride their bikes or the metro into the city regularly, visiting their favorite museums or the Eastern Market.  Having their photos taken in the city where they met and fell in love only made sense, especially since they’re heading off on their next adventure soon- to Pittsburgh!

Eliza & I had planned on shooting around the Mall, maybe hopping on the nearby carousel for a quick ride, and then heading to the Jefferson Memorial.  Unfortunately the book fair had invaded the Mall, the carousel was closed for the evening, and the Jefferson Memorial’s sea wall is currently under construction.  No worries- nothing could get Eliza & David’s spirits down, not even the fast-approaching thunderstorms!  All they cared about was being together, having fun, and documenting the beginnings of their relationship in Washington.

We began our evening at the Smithsonian Gardens.  These two were so confident and at ease in front of the camera!

DC Engagement Session

Eliza & David love to dance- they’ve even stopped traffic in downtown DC because of this shared love.  I have high hopes for their first dance as husband & wife next summer at their Yarmouth wedding.

We jumped into a cab and headed to the beautiful Jefferson Memorial!

And then just as tons of people began to arrive, the sun finally came out!

We walked back to the Mall area, stopping by a few of Eliza & David’s favorite museums.  Our time together ended at the East wing of the National Gallery among these incredible skylights.
