The Blog

summertime visitors!

It has been quite the summer here on Preble Street!  In the month of July we had five sets of out of town guests come and spend a night or two with us.  Michael & I love sharing our home and all our neighborhood has to offer with friends & family, so we were quite content to be entertaining as much as we did.  Between shoots, weddings, and visitors, the month literally flew right by!

Having company is the perfect excuse to cut some lovely fresh flowers for your home, don’t you agree?

Fresh Flowers

With all of July’s guests, we had to make sure we had some delicious treats around the house.  Fresh fruit, lavender lemonade, and salt caramel ice cream from Willard Scoops were definitely staples throughout the month.  We also grilled a lot of burgers, made a couple bowls of panzanella, ate Scratch bagels in the morning, and feasted on a few pizzas from Flatbread.  I’m guessing our waistlines will be a little relieved that we don’t have as many guests coming in the month of August!

Summer Treats

Lucky for Orvis, some of July’s guests even brought their dogs!

And some of our guests got a kick out of embarrassing Michael & I in public with their touristy t-shirts!

Got Moose

About midway through the month we bought the best yard game ever- Ladder Golf, or Ladder Croquet as L.L. Bean has named their set.  No matter what you call it, this game is the perfect ending to a lovely summer day.  Michael & Julia came up with the idea to get a cute chalkboard for the yard to keep a running tally of everyone’s scores- I cannot wait to browse Etsy for just the right one!

Ladder Golf

The blue bolo looked perfect on Samantha & Graham’s dog, Bolo!

Julia, Michael, and Andrew- hardcore ladder golfers.

Ladder Golf Set

While we’ve already had a few guests stay with us this month, the rest of August is looking pretty clear, visitor-wise.  As much as we love hosting our friends, it might be nice to just have a few quiet evenings at home.  If you do happen to drop by, you’ll probably be able to find us enjoying a breezy evening on the patio, hanging out on a blanket in the grass with Orvis, or napping in the shade on the hammock.

I am so obsessed with Ladder Golf (or, as I like to call it, “splatter ball,” haha! And I LOVE the shot of your house at night! So pretty :-)

  • Eliza thinks:

Beautiful shots! A bit partial to the one of my little sis :) Julia is a lawn game beast!

  • Alexandra thinks:

OMG! Love itttt..We need to make a visit again soon. I’ve always called it “ladderball” so there is another name to add to the mix :-p

  • Jess thinks:

“ladderball” looks like loads of fun, but I wonder how it would go with 3 ball obsessed labs playing along? And, yes! We should always have flowers in the house, and not just for company!

  • Graham thinks:

Tell Michael he needs to keep practicing! We’ll be back soon.

  • Ryan thinks:

Brandi and I need to challenge you and Michael to a game of “ladder golf” or the many other names that we call it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • michelle thinks:

you have had a busy summer…i am glad that you have captured these moments….when the memory goes, the images will live on. spoken as a true 57+ person!!!
    happy day!

  • Alison thinks:

My brother has made a couple of ladder golf sets and they make appearences at most functions- our kids are totally addicted! We haven’t played since we adopted our dog- she is a sneak and loves to nab anything with ball or rope involved. The shot of your yard at night looks perfectly peaceful!

  • Emily @ Peach and Pearl thinks:
