reusing your wedding decor!
I have always been inspired by all of the details my friend, Chelsey, created for her beautiful Moosehead Lake wedding last August. Everything was just perfect! One such detail from her wedding day that has always stood out to me is the fact that her father created the lovely cake stands that were on display at her tented lakeside reception. The bold, bright yellow stands under the white cakes is an image from Chelsey & David’s wedding that will always stand out in my mind.
When talking to Keri (of Keri & Paul) about her wedding cake a few months before the big day, I mentioned Chelsey’s cake stands and what significance they held since her father had made them. Keri thought this was a lovely idea and approached her own father about a similar venture. He created this cake stand for Keri & Paul, which everyone loved!
A few weeks before Keri & Paul’s Durham wedding, one of my favorite wedding blogs, Love & Lavender, published a series of posts entitled From Wedding to Home, about the idea of reusing your wedding decor after the festivities are all over. Inspired by these ideas, I thought about how fun it might be to incorporate Keri & Paul’s cake stand as a base of an outdoor decorative arrangement.
A few outrageously large peonies & candles later . . .
I’d love to hear more of your own ideas for ways to reuse wedding (or any event) decor! Happy Wednesday!

Meredith, this is great! Josh and I will be doing the same thing summer with the paper lanterns from our wedding. We’ll transform the back yard trees into glowing displays for our friends engagement party! It feels good to re-purpose something of ours and share it with our friends.
I’m going to get those stands when I head up to Maine this weekend!
yes! love the idea of reusing. and that cake stand is to die for. great job styling, meredith! maybe some day we can get together and style/photograph stuff. wouldn’t that be a dream? :)
@Nina- name the date, please! @Chelsey- have a fun trip to Maine! @Anne- love the idea!
ok meredith… some day when i open my etsy store (filled with who-knows-what) i’ll hire you to photograph the goods. in the meantime, can’t wait to hang out some time soon. p.s. if you look at your web stats, you’ll see that lately i am checking your blog constantly. :) i can’t help it! :)
That cakes stand is gorgeous! We had a tiny wedding at Two Lights with a party a few weeks later, so we didn’t have a lot to reuse, but we did use plants at our party to decorate and our family and friends took them home. My mom still as some going in her flower garden 9 years later! Working on another photographers get together for the fall, thinking styling something fun- interested in joining in?
Mere…these are so beautiful. I am obsessed with her dress, her pearls, and YOUR photos! They are one lucky couple to have such wonderful memories captured by you :-)
