magazine monday: the perfect race!
Orvis ran in his first official 5K race yesterday! We’ve always taken Orvis along with us on our runs, but due to various rules or logistics, he’s never been able to join us in running an actual race. When I saw that Planet Dog was sponsoring the Bayside Trail 5K and that dogs were invited to participate, I immediately registered the three of us for the race. The night before the race I noticed a headline on one of my more recent Runner’s World issues about running your perfect race, and I couldn’t help but think that any race where Orvis was allowed to run with us would be the perfect race. And the perfect Magazine Monday!
There were 60 dogs & 180 humans that ran yesterday’s race along the Portland waterfront and around the Eastern promenade. The start of the race was probably one of the most bizarre, hilarious experiences ever- there were tennis balls flying about and dogs running around in circles, not sure whether they were supposed to be running with their owners or running with their friends. Everyone was laughing and having a great time and, best of all, no one was taking the race too seriously- we were all just enjoying a chilly fall run with our dogs! Afterwards Michael & I couldn’t stop talking about how much fun we had. It was most definitely our perfect race.
After the race, Michael ran to get the two of us a couple of Scratch bagels (mmm!), and I killed time by taking some footage of Orvis playing with the Planet Dog ball he received for running the race! (Just like with the last video I made of Orvis, I hope you’ll excuse my video-editing skills!) Click HERE to view the video on your mobile device.

The Pointer Sisters are so excited to see their favorite movie star on the big screen once again. We are all so impressed by Orvis’s balancing act. This video will be replayed at least ten more times today.
