magazine monday: using found objects for vases!

After Michael & I got back from our chilly, nightly neighborhood walk with Orvis I sat down to check my e-mail on my iPhone and laughed out loud when I saw this e-mail from my sister, MacKenzie:

“Subject: Magazine Monday, Mere!?

Where is it????”

That was it.  No closing, no signature, nothing!

It feels good to know that there is someone out there that looks forward to reading my Magazine Mondays with Meredith posts as much as I enjoy writing them… even if that one person and I happen to share the same DNA!

A few weeks ago I was browsing the magazine aisle at Target and stopped when I saw the magazine, Flower.  The cover was beautiful, the layout seemed great, and before I knew it, the magazine found its way right inside my red basket!

I was intrigued by the article about using found objects around the house in place of vases.  For the past few months I have been using the old, vintage bottles we found in the basement of our 18th century Cape when we moved in this summer.  This little exercise now gave me motivation to think outside the glass bottle, if you will.  After doing a quick sweep around the house, I decided I would try my luck with the aluminum bottle I picked up from Balmer’s, a Swiss hostel I visited during my semester abroad.  I also decided I liked the look of the metal can I picked up on sale from Pottery Barn last month.

I had fun playing around with the two containers at the & unlimited studio this morning and I was quite pleased with my results.

Do you have any unique, found objects that you use for flowers?  Leave a comment below and tell me what I should try next time!

Nothing that looks nearly as nice! Mine are mostly born of necessity, though I did snag a few of the glass water bottles from my office and have removed the labels to use for the bouquets the kids bring in during the summer.
