magazine monday: flower arranging!
Magazines are such a huge part of my life. If you were to walk in our living room right now, you would be shocked to see the giant pile of magazines I have yet to read. Since I have been spending a good chunk of my time on JetBlue flights and in Terminal 5 at JFK, I have gotten severely behind on keeping up with all of my magazines. How sad is that?
I try to pull out my inspiration folder whenever I sit down to read a few magazines. Full of tears and cut-outs that catch my eye, my inspiration folder is my go-to source when I need any sort of a creative kick-start. Whether it’s an original use of an ampersand, a perfect color palette or classic, chic ads- these bits and pieces always find their way to my folder. After reading the April issue of Martha Stewart Living, I tore out the article, Flowers Rearranged: How to Make Beautiful Arrangements at Home. When preparing for my trip down to North Carolina, I asked my mother, an insanely creative & exceptionally talented woman, if she would help me learn a bit more about flower arranging. And, voilà, this installment of Magazine Mondays with Meredith was born!
My mother worked in a floral shop when she was younger and has often offered her expertise of flower arranging for various friends’ weddings & other events. It’s a talent that not everyone possesses, but she makes it look easy & effortless. After listening to her explain the importance of building a base that will offer a balanced structure, and gradually adding some height and visual definition, I’m excited to try an arrangement on my own. As a visual learner, I greatly appreciated having her there to show me exactly what to look for and ultimately create.

Could there be a better way to spend a beautiful fall Monday morning than arranging flowers with the help of your mother? Happy Monday to you!
OK, seriously! Mom is so talented! These photos are great and the flowers are amazing. Wish I could have learned a thing or two about this!
Those are my hands!! I wonder if I will be discovered as a “hand model”!! Thanks for the compliments. I miss doing flowers. It is easy when you love something… like your photography is for you and jewelry design is for your sister. If you LOVE IT, it is fun and does not feel like work.
