magazine monday: body + soul’s health tips

Each year I find myself determined not to get sick.  Tea becomes my main source of hydration and echinacea becomes my best friend if I feel even the slightest of tickles. While an excuse to curl up on the couch and watch 30 Rock reruns might sound appealing right now, the idea of constant sniffling and coughing does not.

For today’s Magazine Monday, I thought I would share with you all Body + Soul‘s 50 Simple Health Tips.  Body + Soul is my monthly go-to source for natural health & nutritional information, but this month they’ve combined so many wonderful tips into one article!  With the busy holiday season and our getaway to Kauai fast approaching, there is a good bit of extra pressure for me to stay extra healthy.  To ward off any possible sickness and improve my general health, over the next few weeks I plan on following as many of the guidelines & suggestions in the article that I can.

It’s encouraging to see some of my standard habits listed in the article: eating lots of fish, using echinacea as a cold remedy, exercising, using arnica for athletic injuries, eating raw honey to soothe a sore throat and drinking lots of tea & water throughout the day.  And then there are loads I cannot wait to try out for the first time like sprinkling cayenne pepper into socks to warm my feet (yes, a little odd, but my feet are always freezing!) and finally buying a neti pot for sinus problems!  Then, of course, there are excuses in the article that warrant treating oneself to a massage or acupuncture, and eating more Japanese food, as wasabi & shiitake mushrooms help fight cavities.  Mmmm… sushi, anyone?

I’ll leave you with one of my own health & happiness tips:  buy yourself fun, fresh flowers.  You’ll smile each & every time you see them, and who cannot use an extra smile or two each day?
