dogs + love
A few days ago two of my very dear friends had to say goodbye to their sweet yellow lab of thirteen years. Their loss has made Michael and I squeeze our own dog just a little harder or scratch his ears just a little longer every moment we’re with him. Their lives are so precious. Their love, even more so.
Luckily I had the chance to photograph this dog in particular, this past summer as part of a surprise birthday gift. Unfortunately, because the session was a surprise, I didn’t have the chance to photograph the three of them together, as a family. If only I could travel back in time and give them both that gift…
Photographing couples and their dogs is, by far, one of my favorite types of shoots. To me, it is an incomparable documentation of love. At the same time that I’m capturing a couple’s shared love for each other, I’m also able to document the unconditional love that the dog has for his or her owners and the corresponding parent-like love the couple feels for their dog. These varying degrees of affection and loving connection add an unparalleled sense of depth and emotion to the photographs.
The following photo, I’ve had on display in the & [unlimited] studio for weeks now. It is a constant reminder of my goal to have every photo that I take uniquely reflect its subject, their lives, their love and their happiness. Well, that… and it just makes me smile!

I can’t wait to have a dog so you can come shoot us! These are adorable!
oh gosh, meredith. my eyes are teary reading this post. you put into words exactly how i feel about dogs… the love is just immeasurable! i can’t even imagine the loss your friends are dealing with. (p.s. can’t wait for you to photograph our future dog with us!)
So cute! I love it. Next time you are in NC you will have to come take some pictures of me and my doggie and my boyfriend, Aaron. :)
Lovely work!
Two of my favorite subjects people in love and DOGS! That last image is priceless… love it!!
Makin me cry! I love that last shot of them with pup looking up. Emma is what we call a “splitter”. anytime we give each other affection, she tries to split us up! I want a mer + alex + boyfriend + Emma shoot of my own.. :)
This is so in line with my blog post from yesterday…the love between people and pets is exactly why I’m in this game.
I had no idea we were famous – either on your blog or in your studio. Thank you so much for this photo, and for all of the other amazing shots you captured!
