comfortable

Despite missing Michael & Orvis and the (much!) cooler temperatures in Maine, there’s just something so comfortable about being back down in North Carolina this week.  This not-so-grand realization hit me as I was driving home late the other night from a delicious dinner (thank you Samantha & Graham!) with great friends in Chapel Hill.  While I didn’t get a chance to drive through campus or visit Franklin Street, just being in such a familiar & all-too-special place felt so . . . effortless.

It took absolutely no thought to get to the Chapel Hill Whole Foods, the very store where my obsession with all things Whole Foods began, to pick up some dessert to bring to my hosts’ home.  I maneuvered my way through the market and was delighted to find that the aisles were arranged just as they were when I left them, despite the store undergoing a pretty big renovation.  And after the aforementioned scrumptious dinner & great conversation, I found myself driving home without worrying about which exits or turns to take, along the very same route I took during every school break & holiday, a drive that I’ve made dozens & dozens of times – one that I feel I could almost do with my eyes closed .

Yes, being here seems so effortless, but it’s that same easy feeling that makes me incredibly thankful that Michael & I have found and made our new home in Maine.  Most everything in Maine & all of New England is still so new to us that we’re able to experience life with a sense of childlike wonder.  I think we’re lucky to call both places – Maine & North Carolina – home.

And because there’s nothing like southern boys in bow ties to make me appreciate my North Carolina roots (& Michael!), here is a little peek at my shoot with Lumina Clothing Co. on Thursday in Raleigh!
