cape elizabeth wedding: michelle & stuart!

Michelle & Stuart contacted me just a few weeks before their New Year’s Eve wedding in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The two live in Germany with their darling baby boy, Jack, but they were planning a celebration with some of their closest family members in a rented farmhouse near Kettle Cove. A ten-person winter wedding in one of my favorite places sounded too perfect to me- I couldn’t wait to meet Michelle & Stuart and be a part of their wedding weekend!

The quintessential New England farmhouse Michelle & Stuart rented for the weekend couldn’t have been a more perfect complement to the day’s classically grey, dramatic weather- the whole day felt very ‘Maine’ to me. Of course, the setting of the cozy farmhouse, filled with their family members just added to the overall romantic atmosphere. Michelle surprised Stuart by incorporating the King Protea, the national flower of South Africa, where Stuart is originally from, in their wedding flowers. Heather Caron did a wonderful job with Michelle’s bouquet and the arrangements, and Stuart was incredibly surprised!

Michelle & Stuart were surrounded by some of their most beloved family members, all of whom played a significant role in their wedding day. Witnessing and documenting this type of celebration has always been something I’d love to do as a wedding photographer. The whole experience was simple, yet lovely, and so wonderfully honest & authentic. Thank you, Michelle & Stuart, for including me in such a meaningful, intimate celebration.

Last night I entered a few of my favorite wedding photos from 2011 in PDN’s Top Knots contest. Hilary putting on her shoes, Rachel & her lovely bridesmaids, Alex, Danny, and Mt. cypress albums: iris book sample!

During the height of the fall wedding season I carved out some time to sit down and finally create a new sample album! Items like this are always on my to-do lists, but they seem to get pushed further & further down, behind other more time-sensitive tasks. After some of my more recent client meetings this year, I simply couldn’t take how outdated my sample albums from Cypress seemed to be, so I decided to remedy that by designing an Iris Book from Rachel & John’s wedding in Wrightsville Beach. It arrived last week, and I opened it with such excitement- something I always do when boxes from Cypress come!

And a few examples of some of the album’s spreads:

For a quick peek into the lovely, yet labor intensive & intricate, process of bookbinding, check out the ‘Happy Holidays’ video from Cypress, released earlier this week. It makes me even more excited to assemble the prints to send them for my next new sample album, the matted Cypress Album.

kat and adam!

Dozens of reasons come to mind when I think about why Kat & Adam are absolutely perfect for each other. There is one in particular, however, that truly stands out to me – the way they show their love. Not just to each other, but to every single person they care about. The ways in which Kat & Adam showeveryone that they care are truly inspiring. I watched these two interact with their closest friends & family members throughout their entire wedding day, and I was struck by how similar Kat & Adam were when it came to showing affection and care. Although the wedding day naturally focuses on the bride & groom, Kat & Adam (effortlessly) made sure that the celebration was about their guests as well. They both show love genuinely, completely, and without any inhibition. They really are perfectly suited for one another.

hilton head island wedding: margaret & simon!

Margaret & Simon enjoyed one of the most lovely fall days for their wedding last month on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina! Not only was the day full of classically charming Southern details -pink Lilly dresses, pearls, sugar gardenias, etc.,- but there were a also few nods to Simon’s British heritage as well- guests enjoyed fish & chips, and the yacht club even flew the Union Flag for the night! The Earl Williams band drew the crowd to the dance floor almost immediately, and later the guests enjoyed two songs sung by the groom himself! After the cheery reception ended, Margaret & Simon made their way through a sea of sparklers to their getaway boat. It surely was a memorable wedding day for me!

the barn on walnut hill wedding: tanasia & chris!

I met Chris & Tanasia one winter morning when they popped into my old storefront studio on their way to Scratch. The two had recently moved to the neighborhood from Virginia, so, naturally, we talked about what life in Maine was like for Southern transplants like ourselves. After our first meeting, I would continue to see Chris & Tanasia around the neighborhood, most often running into them at the bakery. One morning Michael came home from Scratch and told me the good news that Chris & T had recently gotten engaged! I was delighted when, weeks later, I received an e-mail from Tanasia inquiring about wedding photography. Of course, when she told me that they were getting married at The Barn on Walnut Hill in North Yarmouth, I was too excited. I’ve always wanted to shoot a wedding there, and thanks to Chris & T, I now have!

One of the neatest aspects of the wedding was that Chris & Tanasia spent time growing the majority of the food that they served at their wedding. With the help of some close friends, they raised chickens & turkeys, and harvested the vegetables in the rain the week before their wedding! They had Local Sprouts on site to cater everything. It was certainly one of the more special (and delicious!) meals I’ve eaten at a wedding!

wellesley wedding: elizabeth & michael!

Elizabeth & Michael were married earlier this month at Elizabeth’s beloved alma mater, Wellesley College. The ceremony was held in the beautiful Houghton Memorial Chapel- it was such a treat to shoot there! Afterwards, guests made their way to the Wellesley College Club, while Elizabeth, Michael, and I had a chance to take photos around the picturesque campus. It was such a beautiful day and I am so happy that I had the chance to share the experience with Elizabeth, Michael, and their loved ones.

Working with Emilie of Pink Orchid Weddings was an absolute treat! I met Emilie and her business partner, Fiona, while shooting one of my first weddings in Maine, and I’d been anxious to work with them again since!

camden wedding: katherine & spencer

Katherine & Spencer planned the most delightful fall wedding in Camden, Maine that you could possibly imagine. Bright dahlias were nearly everywhere the eyes could see, there were classic navy dresses for the bridesmaids and orange ties for the groomsmen, guests enjoyed the most delicious locally-sourced foods – all set among the charming Camden harbor, on a classically foggy Maine day.

Katherine & Spencer’s wedding planner, Krista from Friend of the Bride, was a tremendous help throughout the entire wedding day, and I literally couldn’t stop photographing the lovely (& delicious!) creations from Swan’s Way. Seasons Downeast Designs created some of the most beautiful fall floral arrangements for the day, and it was too much fun to work with DJ Jon for the second weekend in a row!

It was so fun for me to see Katherine & Spencer share one of their favorite places on earth with some of their most beloved family and friends. The following are just a few of my select favorites from this lovely, classic wedding.

Oh, there is just so much to love about Molly & Nir’s wedding: the beautiful chuppa where all of Molly & Nir’s bridal party and their families stood during the ceremony; the pre-ceremony cocktails; the lovely rendition of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero’s ‘Home’ performed during the ceremony; the crazy dance party during the reception, which included an exhilarating hora; the post-ceremony photos throughout the harbor and on a boat! And then, of course, there’s the super sweet couple, Molly & Nir, with their infectious love for life & each other, who were an absolute joy to photograph from start to finish. So, so much to love about this wedding!

rehearsal at cellardoor winery: molly & nir!

Molly & Nir’s wedding weekend in Camden began with a lovely (& delicious!) rehearsal dinner at the Cellardoor Winery vineyard in nearby Linconville. Family & friends enjoyed delicious treats and wood-fired pizzas from local farm-to-table restaurant, Paolina’s Way, while they sipped some of Cellardoor’s best wines!

I took Molly & Nir outside for just a few minutes to shoot one roll of film of just the two of them! They’re so cute together, I could have shot several more rolls of these two!
